Also known as partial crowns, inlays and onlays are used when a filling is not enough to repair your tooth but the damage is not severe enough to warrant a full crown. Inlays and onlays are a conservative treatment, working to restore your tooth with minimal or no removal of the original tooth structure.

Like dental crowns, inlays and onlays are custom-made to fit your teeth and smile. They are usually made of porcelain, composite resin or gold. Once placed in your mouth, the inlay or onlay is nearly undetectable. Your entire treatment process can be completed in just two appointments with our dentist.

The difference between inlays and onlays is small. Inlays are used when damage does not reach the cusps of your teeth (the pointed ends of the tooth). Onlays are used when one or more of the tooth cusps is damaged. Our dentist will be able to determine whether you need an inlay or an onlay after your initial exam and consultation.
